ICE GATHERS ON LAKEFRONT COLD WAVE STRIKES

"North Avenues on the shore of Lake Michigan, with ice providing evidence of the cold weather. Temperatures dropped to 10 above zero in Chicago before nightfall yesterday, and near zero was predicted for today. Relief is in sight for tomorrow, however."



January 30, 1965
CLOUDS OF STEAM RISE FROM LAKE MICHIGAN

"Vapor rising from Chicago river almost obscures show boat Sari S. moored along bank at Ontario street. Similar scenes were evident at Lake Michigan as air temperatures fall below those of water. Morning motorists, at least for those fortunate enough to get autos started, viewed clouds of steam rising from the lake."
